Sarah Palin Resigns as Alaska Governor
Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska resigned from office today at a ceremony in Fairbanks, Alaska, according to CNN. She had previously notified her state and the media of her intention to resign on the date of July 26, 2009.
CNN reported that Governor Palin said in her final speech that she knows her constituents “know how much I love this state.”
Sarah Palin became a worldwide sensation when she was announced as the vice-presidential candidate on the Republican ticket for the race to the White House in 2008.
Though Ms. Palin and John McCain were not victorious in the end, Sarah Palin became a household name and a big hit with the conservative political base of voters.
Governor Palin decided to resign because she had become the target of too many personal attacks and she most likely found it too hard to do her job and to defend her good name.
Alaska’s new governor is Mr. Sean Parnell, according to the Associated Press. He does not have the star power of Ms. Palin but he will be able to do well by the citezens of Alaska.
It is unknown what poliical path Sarah Palin has in store for herself. We will have to wait and see.
